‘Char Siew’ guy (roast pork)
Recalling old times, so simple and convenient, many hawkers selling food passing by.
In the evening 5 or 6pm, a guy riding a tricycle selling roast port was coming by! All roasted stuff were placed in a specially made metal box, quite hygienic as on top of the metal box was covered with two glass doors. That guy’s appearance was very dark and slim and dry, like a ‘Char Siew’ with cloths on!
Grandma beckoned him to stop at the stony steps, bought each of us a piece of 1 ½ inches long lean ‘Char Siew’ or roast pork wrapped in the sand paper letting us holding in our hand tore it with our teeth and ate, those with a little charred edges was the best. If coincides with our birthday, we would be given a roast duck drumstick to gnaw.
